چکیده
Air pollution in cities is associated with adverse health conditions; however, the underlying reasons are poorly understood. Previous particulate matter (PM) imaging studies have mostly used 2D microscopic techniques. In this study, 3D appearances of roadside and underground railway station airborne PMs elemental characteristics PM were examined. Roadside collected using a cyclone collection system. The structures examined an Olympus LEXT OLS4100 confocal microscope. Elemental evaluated Zeiss EVO 50 scanning electron microscope (SEM) backscattered (BSE) mode. Confocal microscopy both sources indicated some particles can sharp appearing edges. longest axis length had median (range) 4.0 (1.3 to 6.6) μm height 1.4 (0.3 2.1) μm. SEM was consistent appearance size imaging; BSE mode compositions primarily iron, calcium, silicon. conclusion, we observed that surfaces from microscopy. enabled analysis.

Physicochemical Characterization of Airborne Particulate Matter at a Mainline Underground Railway Station
Underground railway stations are known to have elevated particulate matter (PM) loads compared to ambient air. As these particles are derived from metal-rich sources and transition metals may pose a risk to health by virtue of their ability to catalyze generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), their potential enrichment in underground environments is a source of concern. Compared to coarse (...
متن کاملChemical Characterization of Particulate Matter at Traffic Prone Roadside Environment in Agra, India
In the present study, size-segregated samples of PM were collected from urban and semi-urban traffic junctions in Agra, India. PM samples were collected during the monsoon season (July to September 2015) using Grimm portable aerosol Spectrometer. The recorded mean concentration of PM10 at urban site was 137.09±61μg/m3 and at semi-urban site was 270.14±21μg/m3, which were higher than the suggest...

متن کاملThe Effects on Bronchial Epithelial Mucociliary Cultures of Coarse, Fine, and Ultrafine Particulate Matter From an Underground Railway Station
We have previously shown that underground railway particulate matter (PM) is rich in iron and other transition metals across coarse (PM10-2.5), fine (PM2.5), and quasi-ultrafine (PM0.18) fractions and is able to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). However, there is little knowledge of whether the metal-rich nature of such particles exerts toxic effects in mucus-covered airway epithelial cel...
متن کاملEffect of ventilation air velocities on diesel particulate matter dispersion in underground coal mines
This paper presents a detailed account of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations undertaken to investigate the influence of intake (ventilation) air velocities on the flow patterns of diesel particulate matter (DPM) generated by a man-riding vehicle operating in a straight rectangular cross section tunnel in an underground coal mine. The simulation results are validated against an earli...
